Having one decent song on an album with 14 tracks in just not enough. She moves in Her Own Way is a good song, but tiresome after a while. Yes these pretty boys may have some talent but it is wasted. If you are into this kinda music I reccomend The Fray's lastest album, How to Save a Life.
I am sure that that CD will satisfy your tastes much more. Razorlight is also another option, much better!

This is generally a good album, with nice songs, nice tunes, pretty cool lyrics and an all round desireable sound. However, its not a strong, hard hitting album, that will still sound as great the 99th time youve heard it as it did the first. And its not exactly an album you could host a drunken, violent party to. But its a nice album, which is easy on the ear and makes good background music.
But I couldnt see it having the same effect on me in 10 years time, and I just cant imagine an improvement in the next album. I dont think they have the staying power in them. However, they have got potential, so on the other hand, I wouldnt be shocked if they proved my suspicions wrong.

In naming yourself after a song by one of the greatest popular musicians of all time, challenging comparisons are inevitable. This is rarely good news for a fledgling band. Fortunately, by choosing Bowie's song about loving parents advising their infant about growing up and taking his place in the world, the band may also be given the time and space to follow similar advice.
I find this album generally uninspiring. For sure, there are songs of some merit, with "Naive" being the one that I like best. It is simply structured, but has a catchy feel to it, especially the chorus of:
I know, she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be...
Well, she's still out to get me.
I also quite like the riff on "Time Awaits" and the fading in and out of the jamming at the end is novel enough. "See the World" is nothing particularly special, but its one of the few times that the band lets rip a bit. Finally, "Eddie's Song" is bravely about Pritchard's own problems once with erectile dysfunction, while tapping into the same vein of humorous songwriting that the Arctic Monkeys have. Pritchard's affected Northern accent serves to reinforce that comparison.
Nevertheless, there is much work to be done for this band to become a genuinely good one. Not unsurprisingly, there are some duffers on the first album, especially opening with the limp "Seaside". First impressions are important - not least the opening chords - and an acoustic opening giving way to a wistful song about a past romance was not particularly arresting.
The most annoying thing for me though is the overly eclectic nature of the music. I have seen the band linked to any number of influences and, indeed, its a free-for-all when it comes to identifying them. However, while its not necessary for a band to lock into one way only of playing, being so diverse means that the album lacks any sense of cohesiveness or continuity. Also the music lacks conviction in much the same way that an album of covers does. On the other hand, I have seen a few of their live performances on television and they do pack a punch.
Thematically, the album is dominated by Pritchard struggling to come to terms with the breakup of a relationship he was in. By the end, you do want to grab him by the lapels and shake him a bit, as it does become a bit much. However, I probably also need to work on my empathy levels!
Crucially, the band seems to be popular with the student brigade and that's great news for their future development, especially if it gets them fronting for some of the more established bands about. They need only look to The Zutons' current effort to see what a difference a couple of years of gigging and interacting with bands such as The Killers can do.
If you do not know the band, I would listen to a few of the singles before going for the entire album. While I score it down, there is definitely a receptive market out there for this type of music.

One of the best albums which I heard in 2006. Along with the excellent radio hits (Naive, She Moves In Her Own Way) there are some hidden gems, such as 'Match Box' and 'Sofa Song.'
Such a great album to listen to in the summer sun! I would recommend this album to anybody, especially if they are fans of Razorlight, as the inevitable comparisons have been made between the two!

I see people giving this album bad reviews and i for 1 know a good album when i hear one. I give this album top marks as there is so top class songs on this album. (Naive) for 1 is purely amazing on a sterio and sounds amazing in a nightclub. Overall this album is very good and also good to dance to.
