Love it, Love it, Love it!! May 27, 2008 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
It's years since I've bought a CD but after finding myself repeatedly humming 'Mercy' and unable to get it out of my head after hearing it on the car radio I was tempted. Hearing 'Warwick Avenue' (again on the car radio) did it for me and the CD was sold!
There's not one track that I don't think is fantastic and 'Distant Dreamer' sends shivers up the back of my neck.
Have to say it's totally unlike anything else in my CD collection and it is a CD I'll be playing again and again (much to everyone else in my houses annoyance I'm sure!)
Good but I keep hearing Amy Winehouse May 26, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Duffy's vocalising has so many references to Amy Winehouse that it sometimes makes me wince. That doesn't mean that I dislike AW; on the contrary, I prefer to hear her doing her stuff herself.
I am well aware that Duffy has been compared to a host of songstresses from the past but I find some of her note-bending, inflections and pronunciations so similar to Winehouse's that I am left questioning whether it's mere coincidence. Winehouse's vocal foibles are (were?) unique and they have projected her into superstardom. Duffy has so much going for her that I don't believe for one moment that she does it deliberately but the other girl's influence is painfully obvious, even so.
Duffy is an exciting new talent and Rockferry is a very, very good album but she would do well to eradicate the Winehouse references, because she doesn't need them. Four stars.
dull-60s retro May 25, 2008 4 out of 14 found this review helpful
My wife bought it......normally a bad sign.
Really unintersting 60s sound...most of the tracks do not warrant a second litening...quickly consigned to the archives. Amazing what you can get away with if you have blond hair and are not too ugly
Just OK May 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this album after listening to 'Warwick Avenue' on the radio, which brought back some memories from, guess ..., Warwick Avenue. Oveall it's nice, mellow music to listen to. However, I think the guy who used the 'screaming cat' analogy, has been too harshly criticised!

A rare combination of sweet soulful sounds with a modern twist, Glad to hear a 60's influence still carrying on in the next millenium... a classic...buy it :)
