Fantastic January 15, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
My son got this for Christmas (age 9) and bar his playstation it is the only toy we have ever bought him that he truly loves. It is fantastic fun for everyone and very educational. It plays up an odd time where the sensor doesn't work, but we just switch it off and on again.
Explorer globe get's it wrong January 4, 2007 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
I agree with the other comments that this is a fun and educational toy, but watch out as the unit is manufactured in the US where they obviously feel that "London is the capital city of the United Kingdom". There is no mention of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales or the associated capital cities and when we had to tell our daughter that this was a mistake it put her off using the globe for a couple of days. If you want total accuracy this is obviously not the globe for you, mine will be on ebay soon!!!
New Version Supplied December 18, 2006 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
The pictured product is inaccurate and it is the NEW updated version, which is being supplied including 'English language'. The base is now purple and seas are dark blue etc.
Globe-Smackingly Good! December 10, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought one of these for my 6yr old nephew - it was a bit of a gamble given the recommended age but I needn't have worried, he spent the ENTIRE next day playing with it and it's now one of his favourite "toys". The range of games and challenges is excellent - even Grandad and Grandma were playing with it.
The biggest attraction for younger kids is the national music, but once reading ability has improved, hunting out countries and cities is really good fun. In some cases the print might be a little small and the resolution of the touch-sensitive system can be a little frustrating if you're trying to hit a small target (e.g. Luxemburg). I have also witnessed a couple of occasions when the touch sensitive system gets confused and reports everywhere on the globe as being the Indian Ocean, but this has always been fixed by powering off and back on again. On the whole the interactive system works well.
In summary, an excellent educational toy that will provide literally hours of fun for kids with an inquisitive nature. It's not all that robust though, so if the child's preference is for football it might not be the best choice.
Superb educational value and great family fun - if it works! January 31, 2005 58 out of 59 found this review helpful
As described in the other reviews, now shipping with a fully English voice / accent, this globe provides enormous family fun while teaching us a great deal. My 8 year old daughter loves it and will soon be overtaking her parents in the quizzes at this rate. My only problem with this product is that I'm ordering my third one in less than a month, having received 2 defective ones. This could be bad luck but it might also be a sign that the interactive system is not very robust. Fingers crossed ....
