I'm an intermediate PC user and have had Norton on my PC for the past year. When I changed to 2008 edition it started to run really really slowly. So I uninstalled it last week and my PC has got so much faster. It's been a relevation.

1 out of 5 stars More destructive than a tank!   February 17, 2008

I have used Norton products for years, always with ease and simplicity. I thought I was fairly safe to assume that this product would be much the same - How wrong can you be!

The only anti-virus software I know which requires you to scrub all previous installed norton products then reinstall the new version.

Having tried to use the removal tool on the Symatic site it locked my PC up. I then tried to remove the old program manually. Frankly it would have been easier to invent a time machine than go through all the files to track down the deep rooted components of the old program.

Finally the removal process again locked my pc and now I am having to reinstall all my operating systems to try and resolve the issue.

In summary - If you have hours to waste then this is the software for you, failing that get a free AVG software and save a few pounds at the same time!

Thanks to Symantic products for taking a day of my life away mucking around with this product. NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE THEIR SOFTWARE.

1 out of 5 stars Almost as bad as a virus itself. Avoid like the plague.   February 2, 2008

A couple of months ago I got a new laptop. I install the opperating system and register myself and then find myself confronted with this programme asking me to go on a trial. "Oh," I think, "I better get some protection against viruses and I've heard about this product all over the place so it must be good." How wrong was I.
It started out fine but then, after I had shelled out for a subscription, the updater stops working. I look online to see how to fix it and end being thrown back and forth so many times it becomes apparent that I do not possess the technical skill to do so. In the meantime I download some freeware, which shows up a bunch of really nasty bugs that Nortons seems to be totally ignoring. Yes, the free (AVG) offered superior protection to my paid for product.
Later, my computer starts slowing down significantly and almost comes to a hualt whenever norton starts its scans. Annoyed, I uninstall the thing and loose all the money I spent on it, which speeds things up a bit but there are still parts of it that seem to refuse to be removed the machine is simply not as fast as when I first got it. Hmm, what other sort of programme propogates itself in such a way that avoid deletion and reduces the functionality of our system? Norton Security is like having virus all in itself.
Now, like me, when you get a new computer you will probably be confronted by this thing asking for you to indulge in a free subscription. Do not do it. Delete that thing as fast as you possibly can and download a decent antivirus. Save yourselves the anguish I had to go through.

3 out of 5 stars Norton Internet Security 2008   January 24, 2008

I have used Norton Internet Security for years and after reading the good reviews I decided to buy the 2008 version. Since installing it on my new computer with Vista I have had problems exiting from Internet Explorer, the page goes blank and the box does not close down. I have to shut down my computer to remove the box. I still haven't figured out how to solve the problem and have contacted Norton four times for help, each time it seems they have solved the problem until I use it the next time and it happens again.

Wow, so many varied reveiws, I found this a bit confusing when I was thinking of upgrading from NIS 2007. I have been using NIS since 2003 and have never realy had any problems with it, (I decided to buy the 2008 version as this worked out cheaper than renewing my subscription) and I am happy to say that this has continued to be the case, no trouble at all.
