5 out of 5 stars Fantastic (apologies for any typing mistakes!)   December 11, 2006

I realise we live in a free society... but some people should not be allowed to share their views. The review from May 2006 was either written by a Belgian woman who has no sense of homour or a person who simply doesn't get jokes.

This book has to be my one of my favourites of all time. So many laugh-out-loud moments. Okay, so it isn't written with the literary prowess of a classic Dickens novel, but the dialouge reflects the genuine chemistry between Dave Gorman and his flat mate Danny.

I'm sorry that 'AA' didn't enjoy it. But I'm sure that YOU will. Provided you have some aptitude for laughing.

Great Christmas present.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible. Tedious. Tripe.   May 19, 2006

A waste of a tree or two, which is a pity as they have considerably more to offer humanity than this rubbish.

Dull dialogue of the "he said I said he said I said" variety. Pathetic prose and absolutely nothing to add to the general conversation. I resented the hour spent trying desparately to find some scrap of merit in this now redundant Christmas present. Another addition to a dull genre which Gorman manages to drag down to new levels of sucking. Dull as a box of hair.

Get yourself a decent read, like Master and Commander and don't encourage this talentless scribe to inflict any more of this bilge on humanity.

4 out of 5 stars Very Funny   August 19, 2005

As I'm sure you'll be aware from reading the main review, this is the story of a bet between two flatmates, Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace that Dave can't meet 'loads' of people called Dave Gorman. Loads is decided to be 54 and the book describes their journeys to meet people called Dave Gorman.

It's a bizzare idea, but very well executed and the book is funny throughout. Whilst they do travel a lot, this is in no way a travel book and you get no descriptions of the places they have visited.

What you do get is an excellent understanding of the relationship between the two authors and the difficulties that arise when trying to succeed in a ridiculous bet.

The book is written by both of them, with the author at the time being identified by the font (Dave in bold text, Danny in plain) which is wierd, but it works well. Danny is clearly the more skilled writer!

The book is a lot of fun, with several laugh out loud moments. Both of the authors are clearly likable people and this ends up being a real feel good book. I recommend it highly.

No but I sure wish I was after reading this book! The insane wacky recklessness of these two friends is contagious! It made me want to wake up and challenge myself to do something crazy and time consuming - resulting in travelling round the world and forcing complete strangers to help me complete my quest! The book is about how a drunken bet gets out of control and consumes their lifes - its a factual story that is humorously written between both dave and danny in two different fonts. The style of writing is hilarious as are the situations described. A must read!

Are you Dave Gorman? No, but I wish I was! June 5, 2005
The funniest book I have ever read... and I don't bestow that title lightly!

This two-man tale of namesake lunacy is guaranteed to make anyone laugh out loud. Repeatedly!

It all started with Dave Gorman betting his flatmate, Danny Wallace "That there must be loads of Dave Gormans out there", while drunk... Danny wakes up a few hours later and finds he's on a train to Scotland to meet one of them.

To cut a long story short this starts a round the world trip to meet 54 other Dave Gormans. Dave and Danny resort to desperate measures and trickery (Guess what Danny? That man over there just happens to be a Dave Gorman!) to complete the task... but do they do it? Ahh that would be telling! You've have to read this to find out.

Aside from being a story about Dave Gormen (Dave invented the plural) this is also a touching tale of friendship between the two man. But above all this a story of English eccentricity... I think that only two tea-obsessed Englishmen would do something quite this bizarre!

It is told from the point of view of both Dave and Danny... and it works very well. On one hand you have the slightly manic tone of Dave, a man on a mission, while balancing it out is the considerably more depressed tone of Danny, who can't believe what he's been sucked into... but doesn't want to loose the bet with Dave.

This book should be essential reading for everyone... even if you can't answer "Yes" to that immortal question... Are You Dave Gorman?
