Good general advice December 30, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
As a father of three, I am more interested in what to serve as snacks and what to buy at the shops than in following step by step recipes. This book comes up trumps because it has introductory sections to each age group which discusses nutrition and suggests mini (one sentence) recipe ideas which I can remember and adapt.
Not What I Thought November 15, 2007 5 out of 16 found this review helpful
Got this book hoping to find something that my daughter would actually eat, tried lots of recipes in the book and have came to the conclusion that toddlers don't care what the food looks like if they're going to play it doesn't matter if you make some lovely meal or serve them chicken dippers ITS GOING ON THE FLOOR.
If your looking for a book to help with eating problems or fussy toddlers ITS NOT THIS
How silly! September 1, 2007 5 out of 165 found this review helpful
The baby doesn`t know black from white or something tasty from the back of a bus! Why go to all the trouble of cooking up all this special stuff when you can just mash up some old tins of soup that will keep the kid perfectly happy? You`d be suprised just how resilliant the baby`s body is and how much goodness there is in even the simplest of foods... When I was a kid I would eat any old swill and be lovely and content - and I seem to have come out allright [physically at least (nah, just kidding)]. So all you really need to do is buy a can opener and some tinned soup and let rip! Go on - give it a try!
The only book I used for weaning August 18, 2007 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
Found this book so good I used nothing else to get my son onto solids. Plenty of variety in the purees and there were very few that my son didn't like. There are plenty of the first stage weaning recipes which give you good ideas for older children (eg I sneak courgettes into mashed potato thanks to the excellent courgette gratin)
I started using lots more recipe books as we moved from baby to toddler, as I find most of the toddler recipes in this one are a bit bland for my husband and I. I'd say it's not to be considered a family recipe book (I don't think it intends to be either as Annabel has a separate family recipe book out!)
Baby 2 is on the way and I will be relying on this book again.
Helpful and detailed August 13, 2007 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
You get lots of information about starting weaning, but very little information about at what point you should start decreasing milk feeds, so from that point of view I found this book very helpful. The only annoying thing is that anyone with any sense in the kitchen doesn't really need dozens of pages dedicated to the art of stewing and pureeing fruit, so skip that..... But Nursery Fish Pie is still a favourite in our house more than three years on (and the book is about to be pressed into service for no. 2 child) so this book is VFM!
