Apples For Jam Review February 12, 2007 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is a very pretty cookbook. There are lots of nice pictures. I was initially attracted to it for that reason. Also the recipes seemed straight forward and appealing, no fussy ingredients. I do like the book but I find the way it is organised by color a bit confusing. Additionally, the author has chosen to include many of her own children's drawings and her own memories of her childhood. These are sprinkled throughout and while they may mean something to her, they are distracting and rather sappy and overly sentimental, not a good addition in my opinion, just annoying. Overall, not bad, but I expected much more.
A book to treasure for a long time January 28, 2007 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I got this book for christmas, after it caught my eye in the book shop due to its cute cover. I have to say a am not disappointed. Even though the order of the recipes (according to colour) doesnt make them easy to find, and the layout of each recipe isnt that easy to read, I still absolutely love it. I love the photos, I love the drawings, I love the little descriptions she gives for all of the recipes. It makes me feel nostalgic. The recipes are simple, but all of the ones I have tried have been really lovely. I will keep this book for a very very long time, and even when I am not cooking I am often flicking through it.
wonderful January 22, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book, as with "falling Cloudberries"and "Twelve", is wonderful. The recipes are easy to follow and they work really well. The photos and her writings are just a joy to read, you can imagine that you are there with her as she cooks and shops. I am a mother of 4 and run my own business so am very busy and cooking fresh food from scratch is the norm for me and my husband who has recently started to cook and this book makes this job even easier. The jam shortbread recipe is lovely for an afternoon tea treat, her traditional baked pasta dishes are comfort food at its most comforting. Buy this book and the others it makes perfect bedtime reading, relaxing of an afternoon pondering what to put on the table that night or the next. The only problem is what you will cook first, spoilt for choice springs to mind.
Three times lucky October 3, 2006 11 out of 20 found this review helpful
This is the third book of Tessa Kiros' that now joins my kitchen collection. Each of Twelve, Falling Cloudberries and now Apples for Jam have provided great meals, from a stylish and collectable package. These are truly beautiful books but with fantastic recipes to back up the beauty.
Nice surprise September 28, 2006 9 out of 21 found this review helpful
* Unlike the previous reviewer, I hate pink. Since I was five, I refused to wear anything pink, or red.
However, I enjoyed this book a lot. It is 1. beautiful book. 2. full of usuful recipes
Reading this book, you'll start a very nice dream of cooking and eating in front of hearty fire, and become very nostalgic and then, suddenly miss all the siblings.
