5 out of 5 stars The World's most beautiful city in a book...   November 23, 2004
36 out of 40 found this review helpful

For anyone who loves Venice this book is a must. The book has some great pictures and Da Mosto speaks (from an original Venetian point of view) into detail about the history of this beautiful city. Having just recently come back from Venice this book brought back some great memories and helped me to realise how much you miss with these organised trips! Can't wait to go back next year!

5 out of 5 stars A great book reflective of an authentic Venetian...   November 7, 2004

Far from being cliche ridden, this book will delight and entertain. It is truly reflective of the wonderful series on the BBC, where the combination of knowledge and passion from Francesco delights. An excellent present and certainly very inspiring!

4 out of 5 stars Authentic encounter   November 7, 2004

To see Venice, which is all that tourists do, brings a wave of emotions. Da Mosto brings the reality of Venice into sharp focus. Its pleasures and its pain is there for us to experience - but we cannot do this alone. This is why the book is unique and precious; it opens one's eyes to witness Venice as it was and as it is. Go to Venice - then read the book - then go back to Venice and feel, smell, touch, hear and taste our history, his history! Only a true Venetian could work this kind of magic. The book's perspective is the point of this work - pssionate, truthful and as near as one can get to the soul of the place. There may be cliches - but who faced with such a task could give expression in mere words - Da Mosto puts his spirit into the work - and his spirit is 100% Venetian!
