5 out of 5 stars Life on Mars is a jewel in my DVD collection   March 16, 2008

The second series of Life on Mars doesn't waste a shred of it's predecessor's momentum, throwing us into emotional plots, and continuing with it's streak of superb acting, editing, and music.

The ending was widely speculated by fans and some were thrilled, whilst some seemed disappointed. I was extremely satisfied and found it completely believable, but there are those who may not truly understand the depth of the psychological aspects and label Sam's actions as unrealistic. If you let it, this can go far beyond the normal spectrum and touch on life's big questions.

Then again if you're not the philosophical type, at least you'll still be entertained by one of the best cop shows in existence.

3 out of 5 stars Unimaginative   February 8, 2008

Too nostalgic, Gene Hunt used for cheap laughs too often, storylines not as good as the first season and an incredibly stupid ending which is not in line with the character. All in all reasonably entertaining but basically unimaginatively building on a succesful franchise.

5 out of 5 stars Hunky Dory but......   January 21, 2008

I cannot argue with the people who have described this series as virtually faultless. However, I must admit to having found the `extras' (and no, I don't mean the people in the background with feather cuts and ill-fitting tank-tops) a bit irritating. At one point, as someone with initials instead of a name mentions metaphysics, I was just desperate for Gene Hunt to kick the door in and shout `O.K. darlin', enough of the gibberish! Take off the silly glasses and tell us where you've hidden the wacky-baccy'. Later, we are informed that as an audience, we have been `allowed' to fill in the gaps in the plot - wow, thanks, but no need to worry, we'd already worked it out, it was all just what we call `pretend'. Such concern is touching but many of us had already come to terms with the complexities of fictional television time travel, having been fans of `Goodnight Sweetheart'. Finally, appropriately, when `the team' discuss the various endings, they seem to have forgotten that when we had watched it on TV, we cunningly looked at our clocks and said , `that can't be it - look, there's another 5 minutes left yet'.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Viewing as Long as you watch in order   January 3, 2008

This is a fantastic series as good if not better than the last one.
Really strong stories with great moments dialogue and action all be it very unpolitical. The final episode is so comforting and brilliant that you are glad that you have sat through the series just to watch the way it ends without seeing it coming.

This is pure gold.

5 out of 5 stars DVD Dilemna   December 26, 2007

I can't review the actual item but I do have a question...Will this series ever be put on region 1 DVD for us American fans? This show hooked me right from the opening segment, but I've only been able to see a few episodes. Besides getting new glimpses into British pop culture, Ive so enjoyed getting reacquainted with Uriah Heep and Deep Purple and some of the great 70's rock and roll you hardly hear anymore. The show is so funny and clever and that when I turn on American TV I feel cheated. Hope this DVD set will become available in this country soon!
