1 out of 5 stars NOT ABOUT MOTORBIKES OR ADVENTURE, BORING   November 20, 2007
7 out of 15 found this review helpful

Bought this to see a motorcycle adventure. I was really disappointed. This is really boring, more excitement watching grass grow.
Shows how a pair of self obsessed selfish actors squeeze lots of money out of UK licence fee and motorbikes from BMW and other materials out of other sponsors. Not about motorcycles not about adventure not about travel. Lots of close ups of this pair of whining actors who complain about everything including each other, their team in two large vehicles and another motorcycle. The team do everything in the background while the viewer see the two whingers.

1 out of 5 stars No spirit of adventure!   November 19, 2007

I agree with the other reviewer giving 1 star the real issue is this is not about a couple of blokes on and adventure through Africa on bikes. It's about a couple of blokes and an entourage that would embarass mariah carey. And this entourage does all the work, they plan, sort visas, security etc. Charlie and Ewan basically turned up jumped on bike and said "which way?". Then they have the audacity to moan and winge.

There is just no adventure, its more of a race to the next checkpoint rather than exploring the continent and going with the flow and picking up on other travellers reccomendations. Charlie and Ewan also become very dull, not what i would call inspiring characters. And in fairness I think they want some adventure.

Overall this makes for a very poor dvd and its a real shame as riding around the world is something I'd love to do and to see these fella's with all their bikes and kit donated then go and make a hash of it and do so little work is just frustrating.

What's more dissapointing is that these are the same criticisms made of the long way round, so rather then change anything they do a carbon copy, and thats just lazy.

5 out of 5 stars Not Just a trip down south!   November 18, 2007

This is an adventure, an arduous adventure that can not be taken lightly. The support that Ewan and Charlie need to combat it is immeasurable .The lengthy boarder crossings the forever changing and sometimes gruelling terrain is enough to make most cry but they came out of it smiling because that is what the people of Africa make you do.

Having been born in Nairobi, I only spent my first 11 months there, but I have spent 2 months of my adult there as well as holiday in other parts. I managed to get the feel of the place and the people and that is what they have achieved through their journey.

This DVD, on the downside will be too short to capture all of the resonance and character of the land,, but will provide a great insight into this journey and prove that this adventure has been many sided in raising funds for UNICEF, giving Ewan and Charlie the ride of their life and the viewers a rich tapestry of the life of the Africans and their land.

I too have seen animals in their natural habitat.

5 out of 5 stars boys are back in town!   November 14, 2007

i just love it. seen a preview copy and thought the heights of Long Way Round couldn't be repeated but they have. Ewan and Charley really got through some tough days early on and the payback toward the end of the trip is fantastic - amazing sights and sounds.

well done guys - can;t wait for the next trip!

1 out of 5 stars Pampered, imperialistic non-adventure   November 13, 2007

Ive never seen anything more laughable. This series is a joke. One episode begin by saying, "apart from two trucks and a camera crew we're on our own". What follows is the most luxurious bikered ever undertaken, let alone filmed.
The dialogue is so sparse, you are lucky if you get one sentance per country riden though. The stars so uncommunicative that my pet cat speaks to me more.
The trip so unadventurous, that Ive been more excited going to the suypermarket.
Far from being an adventure of a lifetime, this is a trip to forget. As soon as possible.
