4 out of 5 stars Ignore the moaners and enjoy a great adventure   January 31, 2008

No it's not as good as long way round, yes the support team are with them most of the time but for good reasons.

But so what - it's still an amazing journey and very enjoyable.

I would have liked to see more of Claudio as he was very good in the first one, and the support team really need to have better off road training!

2 out of 5 stars "Its the Sloane Ranger and TomTom - again"   January 31, 2008

There is a well worn biking mantra, "Its not the destination, its the journey" and one cannot take that away from these two, as John O' Groats to South Africa is a pretty decent journey. One mustn't forget that Charley has also taken part in the Dakar rally, a real hard-arsed event, so, `respect`and 2 stars just for that, but that's it. Although there are some interesting snapshots in this second, heavily supported and sponsored `jolly`, after `The Long Way Round` it is a big yawn. The wheelie'ing antics of Charley really are tiresome (most skilled riders could do one, but most responsible riders don't) and even the crew had a go at him about their concerns. This was proved right when in the final episode he wiped out the unsung hero, poor Claudio the cameraman, in yet another ego wheelie. For those interested in what can be achieved with nil sponsorship, old technology and good old fashioned guts, they should take a look at "The Last Hurrah" DVD and book (both available on Amazon) to see what can be achieved with a fraction of what "The Long Way" had. Sorry guys, but thats it. No more repeats, please.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing..........   January 30, 2008

Very disappointing especially after watching LWR. The incredible feeling of adventure in LWR just isn't there in LWD. First of all there is an inconceivable amount of support. Then you have Ewan's wife turning up to tag along not having the slightest clue of how to ride a bike. It also seems this causes a lot of tension between Charlie and Ewan. I keep going back to LWR, I don't think I'll ever be watching this again.

1 out of 5 stars dont buy this   January 27, 2008

I implore you not to buy this, if you do all you are actually doing is funding this trip or any other trip these jokers decide to do in the future. Despite what they say the trip is neither entertaining or challenging, it is in fact just a jolley for the two involved.

5 out of 5 stars Just as good as Long Way Round   January 23, 2008

I do not understand all the one and two star reviews from fans of the original show. Okay - I can see, to a point, why people might be disappointed with it (the support team and their screentime; the pressure the guys were under to get to destinations each day, causing fatigue and worry) but how can you hate it? Everything that made the first series great is still here!

- The camaraderie and humour of Ewan and Charley.

- Beautiful and amazing scenery.

- Interesting glimpses into different countries and cultures, that you would not find in another documentary.

Perhaps they could have cut back on the number of people in the support crew, but they definitely needed them there! It's ludicrous to suggest they should go out 'without support.' And how can anyone dislike Claudio? He's a great member of the team, who also (in case anyone has forgotten) had quite a bit of screen time in LWR. I was really glad to see him back.

As for accusations of Charley and Ewan acting like 'naive tourists' or whatever... Well, they are both rather naive, which is part of their charm, and they acted in similar ways in the first show.

I'm sorry that people were disappointed in this show. Personally, I found it fascinating, often hilarious and incredibly enjoyable - just as much as the first series.
