5 out of 5 stars Truly awesome comedy experience   September 10, 2007
This is one of the best comedy DVDs i have seen in a long while. My favorite episode is the one with lord flashhart (Rik Mayal is great) with BLackadder's extreme sarcasm and wit and Flasharts sexism and general coolness. This will make you laugh for ages and ages to come

5 out of 5 stars Matured Fourth Time Around   May 6, 2007

Six years after the name Edmund Blackadder first appeared on television, and the series of "Blackadder" finished (at least at time of writing) strongly with a final series to be proud of. This time set in the trenches of the First World War, "Blackadder Goes Forth" contains some brilliant episodes and finishes with the most memorable and poignant conclusion of any television series period.

When the series finally reaches it's conclusion, Richard Curtis and Ben Elton created perhaps the finest ending to a series that you will ever have. With the soldiers finally going 'over the top', Curtis and Elton created a powerful and beautiful piece of work with final episode "Plan F: Goodbyeeee". Emotional throughout, the episode was stunning to watch and it's final conclusion is the most important and magnificent way to ever finish a series.

Brilliant to watch throughout, "Blackadder Goes Forth" could so easily have failed miserably. It is a much more mature series to it's predecessors and it thrives on it's never ending demonstration on the futility of war. As it reaches it's conclusion, the series finishes on a high with probably the finest ending ever. So many people have grown to love these characters and when this series finished, it was the perfect way to say goodbye.

5 out of 5 stars brilliant comedy   March 7, 2007

Agree with all previous reviews of Blackadder it is timeless comedy. This one though is my favourite, they dont make comedy like this any more. Stephen Fry,Atkinson, laurie are all superb. If people looked a bit deeper into it their seems to have been a message showing the futility of the first world war. And the final scenes were emotional and brilliantly done.

5 out of 5 stars Blackadders best   November 27, 2006

The 4th series of Blackadder is one of the greatest TV comedy series of all time. The acting and writing is incredibly good. Balance this with the fabulously moving ending to the last episode, which was so unexpected at the time, and you have the perfect TV show.

Stephen Fry's performance is my favourite, but nobody has ever delivered lines like Rowan Atkinson does. Seeing one of the production team interviewed once he likened Rowan Atkinsons delivery to singing, and I think this is a valid comparison.

To pick out any one person is unfair as all the performances are excellent and the show wouldn't have been as good with a different cast. Like most of the greatest TV comedies (Fawlty Towers, Dads Army etc) somehow fate delivered the perfect cast for this show, and we should all be grateful.

I have lost count how many times I have seen this series now and I still don't get bored with them. An essential purchase.

5 out of 5 stars 'Well I'm not having anyone looking in disbelief at MY willy suspension!'   October 29, 2006

Blackadder Goes Forth is easily the best of the four series. Each episode is simply wonderful, all the characters are at their best and the script is a dream.

The opening episode has many classic moments, from Baldrick's array of rat dishes, to the colour-blind hedgehogs and Darling and Melchet disgusting dinner. The courtroom scene froom the next episode will having you choking with laughter as Baldrick denies literally everything and the escape kit from hell. Corporal Punishment is another classic with Melchet trying out his chat lines in front of Capt Darling. Private Plane is the best of the series, as Rik Mayall steals the show and the fate worse than a fate worse than death. The next episode sees Blackadder grilling Capt Darling who thankfully can remember all THREE verses of God Save the Queen before the series climaxes in style. Goodbyeeee features a whole host of classic lines with the makeshift coffee, Baldrick's poetry and the final, memorable 'push', the perfect way to end the show.

The whole series is a joy to behold, brilliantly written, wonderful performances and moving as well, perhaps the best British comedy series ever.
