Amazon.co.uk Review Quicken personal finance software has been around a long time in its successive versions. But why should you invest in such software at all? For newcomers to Quicken 2002 Deluxe it will do the crucial job of pulling together all your financial accounts--current accounts, mortgages, endowments, savings, credit cards, property and the rest--under one roof. You may marvel as you discover your net worth for the first time and uncover any black holes in your finances. Most importantly, seeing your accounts side by side will show you which is performing and underperforming and help you re-establish (or perhaps establish for the first time) personal finance targets. Quicken comes in three versions, so why opt for Quicken 2002 Deluxe rather than the entry-level Quicken 2002 Standard or the small business-oriented Quicken 2002 Deluxe & Business? Firstly Deluxe will give you more sophisticated tools with which to analyse the account data you painstakingly input when you first opened the program. As well as budgeting, you will be able to use data to forecast and plan your financial future. You can directly access personal finance news from the excellent Motley Fool Web site (a matter of convenience rather than a compelling selling point, after all you can go to the Web site anyway) and you can use Quicken to detail your home contents insurance. You can also generate "what if?" scenarios on your income, expenses and investments and track your share options. Once everything is entered Quicken will generate reports, see where money is going by categorising transactions and check on the performance of your investments. And you can check that your ISAs, pension funds and the rest are on course to deliver the funds you'll need in five, ten or 30 years. For users wanting to discipline their existing finances and plan ahead, Quicken 2002 Deluxe is a good one-stop solution. --John Rennie

Quicken Rules November 30, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used Quicken in various versions for the past ten years, right from Windows 95. I have never had any serious problems with it apart from downloading from bank accounts. With Vista it took a while to understand how to run it in a compatibility mode that suited it, but it is still going strong. I am not sure why people had trouble with stocks and shares. I ran many stocks with it through the years I was investing and it downloaded latest prices. My only big beef is that it is no longer supported so I cannot have upgrades.
I am self employed so the program is a vital tool in my work.
Support June 24, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
You need to be aware that Intuit withdrew their support for Quicken in the UK from January 2005 but continued support for existing customers of Quicken XG until January 2006. The program is certainly the best for home accounting

Quicken Deluxe 2002 October 15, 2002 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
This is the fifth copy of Quicken I have purchased so you could say I am a fan! I have tried Microsoft Money in the past but I find I have more control of what I want to achieve with Quicken. The helpful set up procedure may seem painfully long winded but is necessary if you want an accurate picture of your finances. One word of warning. Do not use the budgeting feature to tell your wife that her spending on clothes is less than it was last year. She will treat it as a challenge!!
Disappointing - poor support June 10, 2002 61 out of 63 found this review helpful
I used to be a quicken user but switched to Money 2000 some years ago. I'd forgotten why - and for a variety of reasons thought I'd give quicken 2002 a go. Then I remembered...The setup process (on both win 2000 & xp machines) generated error messages. So i checked the intuit site for advice. Both the main & UK sites were very thin on help: only 1 reference to installation issues, which didn't apply. There was a patch or upgrade, from v1 to v2, but when I tried downloading it & running it, even the patch didn't install properly. Intuit offer *no* online support to speak of, you are invited to ring a premium rate number for advice. However - both the number on the UK web site and on the UK customer support phone network were both disconnected. That's right: not just busy, or ringing but no-one picking up, but number unobtainable. I tried repeatedly, so no mistake. After that I just put the CD back in the post & mailed it off to Intuit for a refund. My personal opinion is that with support this poor Quicken deserves to get eaten alive by Money.
