AntiVirus and more September 28, 2006 Norton goes beyond just providing a software that blocks viruses. Viruses are of course actively scanned for, on the internet, in your e-mail, in your instant messages and your file structure on the hard disk.
Moreover, this is happening both continuously as you work your computer as well as with full system scans - usually after new virus information has been downloaded.
This tight level of control, checks and double checks allows you to work on your PC without having to be worried by the danger of viruses and without having to interrupt your work for any of these processes, either. They are automated, so your interaction is not required at any time.
good job September 20, 2006 Norton did a good job on their antivirus software. It really did install as easily as people told me it would and actually found a handful of malware programs during the process that it promptly removed.
Ever since, I haven't really seen much of it; tucked away in the taskbar the only thing I ever notice are the upgrades. More important are the many things that I don't notice anymore, though: Unreliable system performance, frequent crashes and vast amounts of spam.
Norton is the ideal anti-virus solution for me, as I need to be able to work on my PC without being constantly hassled either by viruses or the tools that should save me the hassle in the first place.
Popular, but definitely not the best August 27, 2006 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Personally I am not a big fan of this software for a few reasons, which I will state. Uses to much RAM compared to other not as commercial antivirus programs like NOD32. The interface isn't very nice to use. They add a so called worm blocker, this is an extremely cut down firewall, so if you want the full firewall you shed out another wad of cash for Norton Internet Security. The antivirus is overpriced and the subscriptions are overpriced. The software is irritably slow. Another thing that annoys me is that it is old code that gets fiddled with and then they change the year on the box. So you want to uninstall it because it is so bad, that's a whole other problem, you have to download a tool off the website to do that.
But on the other side I have not seen any alerts of any viruses, but on the one occasion that I did have a virus I had to manually remove it as the software couldn't for some reason. The only reason I have given it three stars is because it sort of works.
Also I would not believe the majority of good reviews on this site as they are worded far to well to just be of someone who liked the software, Charles Langley for example writes "Whilst regular updates ensure a solid base line of protection, the intelligent algorithms trying to identify as yet unregistered attackers really set this product apart from the competition".
In short I would not buy this software, it is incredibly well targeted at the consumer and very well known in all households, but this definitely doesn't mean it is the best.

Once again it is time to renew my Norton Antivirus and once again the install was a breeze and went without a hitch. Having saved my bacon before I know I can rely on Norton to help me in a fix. Love the new look interface and ease of use and it doesn't get in the way of everyday PC use. Definately great buy!
Easy to install and operate August 16, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having read the reviews, I bought this upgrade with some trepidation having sucessfully used NAV2003, 4 and 5. The software was installed first time, it removed my NAV2005 without any prompting and did a system scan / update with no issues. Yes, it can be a bit slow but the protection is superb. I run a Dell 4600 3.5GHz PC which is 2 years old and, in response to some of the other comments, I have to say that I'm not 'in the business' and I'm not a software expert by any stretch of the imagination!
