Great! But remember your password May 18, 2008 I can't reccomend this enough! Its a great peice of software, it has everything you'll need to pass your test. The mock driving test is the jewel in the crown, it shows you EXCATLY what will be in your practical exam and how it will be run.
However, if you decide to protect your account by adding a password, REMEMBER IT. If you don't they is no way the disc will remind you. If you forget, you'll have to make another account and start from sratch. Take it from me, its very annoying when you forget.
passed with just this and some common sense September 25, 2007 I know the test is supposed to make sure that you're fully aware of all the rules, laws, and guidelines, but being honest most people just want it out of the way so they can book the practical. As long as you remember to increase the size of the hazard perception videos, they're pretty close to the real test (perhaps a little longer). Muggins here never actually noticed you could increase the size, and spent the last three weeks practicing on something about half the size of the test videos. First time I tried the perception test, I think I got about 30/75 - in my actual test today, I got 67/75 thanks to the practice I had with this DVD. As long as you do the theory side of things, and have a bit of common sense, this will get you through the whole test no problem. Enjoy, I'm off out for some beer to celebrate!
Questions OK, hazard perception lacking July 26, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As other reviewers have said, the question part of this program is pretty good - it asks you questions from the official DSA question bank, and keeps track of questions you've got wrong in the past - pretty much all one would expect of such a program.
The hazard perception isn't very good, for two main reasons. First, the videos are compressed/low resolution, such that the detail you can see is far below the eyesight required to get a license; to get full marks the program expects you to identify hazards which are literally nothing but compression artefact blobs. Second, the videography is somewhat amateurish; for example the night driving videos are nothing but a sea of black with moving spots of white, with colours saturated so that red, amber and green lights and reflectors all show up as white.
The software also has some curious bugs; for example it says 'test passed' even if you got fewer than the required number of hazard perception points.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of hazard perception videos available; enough for about ten practice tests at fourteen videos per test. And, despite the failings outlined above, I did pass my theory test and hazard perception tests after using this software.
On balance this software cost me only ~7 including shipping and I did pass my theory and hazard perception tests after using it. It could be better, but at the price it's hard to complain.
Note: Don't worry if your performance on the hazard perception is patchy when you use the software; mine was too, but in the actual exam I was fine.
Excellent preparation for the Theory and Hazard Perception Tests June 23, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I passed my Theory test in February with an almost perfect score using this DVD.
Based on my experience of using the product, the Theory Test preparation is outstanding while some work needs to be done on the quality of some of the video clips for the Hazard Perception practice. I cannot comment on the section that provides practice on the practical driving test as I have not used it.
The DVD has the entire bank of official Theory Test questions along with additional questions provided by the publishers. It also provides separate questions on Traffic signs.
It was very useful to take mock tests in a format similar to the exam, obtain feedback with reference to the appropriate section of the Highway code so you understood why a particular answer was correct. This was helped equip me to answer questions I had not actually encountered in practice when I took the actual exam. In additon to the question bank, there is a complete copy of the Highway Code on the DVD. After practicing and revising with this section of the DVD, the actual exam was quite easy.
There was a large selection of Hazard Perception clips. These video clips were taken in various conditions including night time and bad weather. Also the clips were taken from real world, real time driving situations and, as other reviewers have stated, at times the quality was less than ideal. From the information on the packet, the makers of this DVD have attempted to provide practice clips taken fron actual driving situations.
However, after spotting hazards from the point of view of a fast moving vehicle, in sometimes poor driving conditions, the actual exam is easy. After each clip, the areas where you clicked are identifed along with the points where you actually scored. There is also an explanation of the hazard. I found this useful in identifying hazards in other clips.
The clips in the actual Hazard Perception exam are clear, from a vehicle that is not moving very quickly. Also, some of the clips seem to be staged. If you master the Hazard Perception practice clips on thes DVD, the exam is easy.
When I first started to practice for the Hazard Perception test with this DVD, I failed tests because of over clicking. I understand that if you click too much in the actual exam, you will fail. I was forced to look at the clip properly and refrain from clicking until I identified an actual hazard. I suspect that the sensitivity to clicking in the practice tests in greater than than in the actual exam.
Using this DVD ensured that I was well prepared for the both the Theory ahd Hazard Perception tests.
Questions good, Hazard perception terrible May 29, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The questions in this are as good as you can get, plenty practice and you should have no problem on that side of the test. As for the hazard perception, the images are very unclear. I kept getting low marks and when I reviewed the clip the 5 marks were awarded when the hazard couldn't even been seen properly. Also there is not a lot of clips and I went through them pretty quickly. I did pass my test though!
