1 out of 5 stars How to lose reputation and market share...   October 6, 2008
No support for multicurrency and it can't calculate VAT correctly, the latter being inexcusable. Stick with 2005 and 2006, which were very good packages. I really don't know what Intuit are doing here but it can't be good for business!

2 out of 5 stars This is difficult   October 1, 2008
Having got this software free through the Amazon Vine program I must admit I feel a bit guilty giving it a low rating, but I must respect the views of the professional people who've already reviewed this product especially as they obviously have a lot more experience with it than I do, this being the first time I've used it.

The very fact it can't even calculate VAT properly probably does deserve one star (and from the sounds of it the customer service, which I haven't used, possibly does also), but the fact that at the moment my small business runs under the VAT threshold means that I don't have to submit VAT returns so I'm sure I'll be able to make use of this program for some things I need, if not all, so for that reason I'll up the rating slightly.

1 out of 5 stars Not what I had hoped   October 1, 2008
Running a small business for a few years I was interested to see how easy QuickBooks was as a financial package, I hoped it would make book keeping easier.

I have tried the Microsoft package and found it a little complicated.

QuickBooks as a package is easier to follow, layout is good, so first impression were good, then it started to go wrong, I had noted the comments around VAT in the other reviews, being a VAT registered company thought it very important that I check calculations, QuickBooks was all other the place with its calculations, I'm no finance wizard but even I can calculate VAT, I did think it may have been me so let my brother in-law who is better at finance have a go, he couldn't understand how it got simple VAT sums wrong.

As a package it is good and easy, If you not VAT registered you may not experience any problems, there is a 30 day free help line which may have the answers, personally I don't have the time to ring help lines, I run a business that needs my time.

Wish I could of recommended the package but you can't trust software that makes mistakes.

1 out of 5 stars It doesn't work properly.   September 30, 2008
I can only concur with every single other review of this product, because some of the functions don't seem to have been programmed correctly! I had never used a previous edition of this software - which seemed to get generally very good reviews - and I was interested in using it. Unfortunately, I spotted two problems very quickly. Firstly, it doesn't support multiple currencies. I suppose this is more of an oversight that a program error, but considering the 2006 version DID support multi-currency, I really don't know what happened there. Second, and this really is the big issue with this software for any UK user, it doesn't seem to calculate VAT correctly! I mean, come ON.

You can probably gather from this and all other reviews that this software really needs to be avoided.

1 out of 5 stars What Have They Done?   September 28, 2008
The other reviewers here have got it spot on. We've been using Quickbooks since the late 90s - it was a real benefit to us in running a small business. It was quick and easy to use, and did everything we wanted and more. However, this version is clumsy to use, overcomplicated and is more akin to Sage (which we hated!) than the original QuickBooks.

Earlier reviewers have suggested not upgrading to this if you've got an earlier version and I'd endorse that view. Why Intuit have messed with such a good, solid concept beggars belief. AVOID!
