1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed   April 10, 2008
I bought a Canon PowerShot A430 because i thought Canon was a reliable brand. I liked it very much, it was simple and easy to use, and i took meticulous care of it. It came with a year warranty, but 4 months after the warranty expired the camera stopped working. When i rang Canon i was told their standard repair rate is actually the same price i paid for the camera, which i'd bought new on Amazon! Needless to say i was very disappointed, and my camera has now joined the accumulating mountains of throw-away electronic rubbish. I will certainly never buy a Canon product again, and i would discourage anyone from buying this camera or any other Canon product given my experience with quality.

5 out of 5 stars Ideal starter camera   April 13, 2007

I have owned the Canon A430 digital camera for about six months and I use it at least once a week. So far it's been a pleasure to use and I particularly like the different shooting modes. Although a little bulky and heavy, I would still recommend this as a good starter camera for anyone considering purchasing their first digital camera. One tip: get a larger memory card (e.g. 1GB SD card) and a set of rechargeable batteries (Uniross 2500mAh Ni-MH AA are the ones I use and they last for ages) as regular batteries will fade very quickly.

4 out of 5 stars Very easy to use.   February 27, 2007

Before I bought this camera, I owned a Powershot S20 for 5 years. Before that I had a Sureshot so I have been using Canons for many years.

The Powersot S20 was very fiddly to use and the battery usage was horrendous. What we wanted was a small, light "point and shoot" camera that we could use anywhere. That's why we bought the A430 and I have to say we are delighted with it.

The A430 uses normal AA batteries which is very convenient. It is very "intuitive " to use and it gives really good results. You can also make short video clips with sound.

I can thoroughly recommend this camera.

5 out of 5 stars Quality Camera   January 25, 2007

I bought this camera as my second camera - I have a digtal SLR and needed a small pocket sized point and shoot. This camera fits the bill perfectly.

Excellent picture quality for the money - better than that of many more expensive cameras.
Simple to use - even my wife has shown an interest!

The only bad thing I have to say about the camera is that it is power hungry. The batteries that came with it didn't last very long. My advice is invest in rechargeables - lots available on Amazon.

One last thing - get a bigger memory card. All in all a great buy.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic performance for the money   January 4, 2007

We bought this camera for our 10 yr old daughter and we've all been highly impressed by the results. There are excellent features for the money (4x optical zoom, use of AA batteries, auto-rotation of portrait images, in-camera panorama stitch, very easy to use, excellent Cannon software, optical viewfinder as well as LCD screen). The camera gives very good results indoors and outdoors on it's point and shoot mode, and there are a number of manual features accessible if you want them. Superb build quality - not the most compact model in the world and it is only 4MP, but in terms of value for money it is truly outstanding.
