2 out of 5 stars Weak even for the new series   June 12, 2008
I agree with other reviews more or less. I too am an ardent Spyro fan and been. When the new series by Krome and Sierra came out, I was excited. The first game had it's ups and downs but mostly was good. But this is just a desaster!

Spyro the Eternal Night really takes the weaknesses of the first game and makes them weaker! One thing that really annoyed me was that the lighting was awful. Entering this one dungeon that's kinda dark, not even messing with the brightness and contrast on my TV did much to help. It's so dark you can barely see a yard in front of you, and you can't tell an enemy is coming until it's on you! Turn up the brightness all the way and all you get is darkness PLUS an extra fog lense.

Gameplay, too, get's real old real fast. I really only bought this game because it carries the story on from the previous, and I just want to find out what happens. Small changes have been made and not nearly enough to make the game captivating.

Yes and indeed the weak gameplay is not supported by the story much... In all the Sierra games I've bought I've always come to the same conclusion: No Story, Weak Plot, No Drama.

Unless completing the trilogy is bugging you so much you can't sleep, I don't particularly recommend this to anyone. Sure it's good if you have 30 minutes to kill and haven't anything better to do, but this game really isn't worth the commitment.

1 out of 5 stars Time to take Spyro out and shoot him.   April 30, 2008

If you love the first 3 Insomniac Spryo's just avoid this rubbish like the plague. Too hard, too boring, no new or exciting worlds to see. This new trilogy is an insult to the original games. Unless this franchise is going to be given back to Insomniac they might as well put the little purple fella to sleep instead of killing him slowly with these appalling games.

Shame you can't give it no stars, 1 is far too generous.

1 out of 5 stars BORING   January 28, 2008

Being a big Spyro fan I found this game to be another huge disappointment. Its just fighting, fighting, fighting over and over - the only difference is the background and the enemies change slightly from level to level - YAWN. When it comes to bosses there's far more chance than skill to it so why bother doing it over and over ad infinitum? And those ridiculous, restricted bounce back and fore, dodge, fire sections drove me to the point of screaming. What is the point? Spyro used to be really good fun but now its seriously annoying. And that ending? oh dear what a lack of imagination!

1 out of 5 stars Where do I begin?   January 24, 2008

Well, I'm not even halfway through the game and have given up on it. I'm very disenchanted with it.
Its not fun because its too hard.
I also have every Spyro game and this is without a doubt the poorest.
No cuteness, no going back to previous levels to finish off the bits you needed new powers for! No buying the next one until they go back to a more original format!

4 out of 5 stars REMEMBER TO GET 'A NEW BEGINNING' FIRST!   January 6, 2008

I loved 'spyro, a new beginning' and was really sad when i finished it because i liked it that much! now i have the new one 'spyro, an eternal night' my sadness is over as it carries straight on from the last game.
i haven't got very far but it's better: it's more challenging which is a great thing as whats the point of a playstation game if all you have to do is catch a butterfly and look at a flower! SO WHAT IF THERES A LOT OF FIGHTING AND STUFF LIKE THAT! i think thats what makes it so fun!
