A fantastic read for young people October 31, 2007 I bought this book on holidays to have something non taxing on the brain to read. I was pleasantly surprised by the book. It is absolutely perfect for younger people to read. My daughter went through it in no time at all, enjoying it to the last page, as did I. It's a cracking plot with some fantastic charaters throughout, and a nice easy read as I'd hoped for. There's time travelling, magic, and getting to grips with growing-up to get through in the book. I can relate, as could most people, to the main character in the book who has to make some bold decisions, once he steps onto the magical road he has to tread when he brings this newly found world to life. I didn't realise that there were more books in this series until I checked out the author on Amazon. I'm now the proud owner of no less than five indian books and enjoyed every one of them. My only advice would be to get these books, they're a great read for all ages .
THE ADVENTURE OF THE INDIAN October 3, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"The Indian In The Cupboard" is a long book by Lynne Reid Banks. It is very, very, very good. It's about a boy who has a magic cupboard. At first he is not impressed with his toy plastic indian but when he puts it in the cupboard it comes to life. Omri, the boy, enjoys playing with the indian. I think it is a brilliant book because it has good imagination.
Exciting book makes you want to read others in the series. October 8, 2000 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This book is about a boy who was given an old cupboard for his birthday. It can change plastic model figures and toys into life if you put them in the cupboard and lock it with a special key. We loved this book because we like to think of being able to do this with our own dolls house people. I am 9 years old, my two sisters are 7 and 11. It is really exciting because you are always worried that someone else is going to find out about the cupboard, that it would no longer be a secret and the cupboard would be taken away. We really wanted to read all the other books in the series. There are about 4 other books that continue the story.
Fable for children and their parents November 26, 1999 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This book deserves to enter the list of children's classics, alongside books like the Borrowers and Tom's Midnight Garden. (it shares some elements - time travel, and size issues - with each of these books)It is not just a good read for able children, but an enjoyable one for parents to share by reading aloud. Like all the best children's books, it's adult-friendly, in that the people are believable. The characters, including "Boo-hoo" Boone the crying cowboy, allow a reader with indulgent children to practice some fun voices too. It conjures up the atmosphere of childhood well, and has a strong moral. It's never spelt out so unsubtly as this in the book, but everything underlines a message that no matter how small or different, people are people, and not playthings. Though the first book is complete, the author obviously couldn't resist returning to the subject, producing memorable sequels.
This is a brilliant book and I loved reading it March 30, 1999 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The indian in the cupboard is about a boy called Omri who is given a plastic indian and a cupboard with a magic key although the film hasn't got a very good reputation the book is so good. I think that ages from 10 up probably would enjoy it. It has a good story line and it is very interesting SO READ IT!!!!
