5 out of 5 stars For all ages   February 8, 2006

We took this book out of the library and my son has insisted on reading it every evening since then. He is almost 6 years old and it is simple enough for him to read it himself (echoing part of the story where Lily realises she can "read it herself"), but he also likes me to read it to him. I've enjoyed it too as it flows well, the story is a bit different and Blue Kangaroo is a charming fellow. I will probably buy a copy to keep!

5 out of 5 stars A lovely book   November 28, 2004

This is my 3 year old's favourite Blue Kangaroo book. Lily is trying to find things to do, but, when she asks for help, all her relatives are busy doing other things so she has to do everything herself. It ends with Lily asleep having forgotten that she left Tiny Teddy out in the rain, so Blue Kangaroo has to "do it by himself" and bravely go out in the garden to get Tiny Teddy in the dark. It has a nice gentle message, suggesting to young children that perhaps they don't always need as much help as they think they do. The illustrations are lovely - full of character and very colourful. It's a very recognisable world that runs through all the books, although perhaps a bit old-fashioned. I like the way that normal things are just slotted into the background - the cat lazing around different parts of the house, the crying baby.

I must admit that sometimes I get a little bored reading the same book to my daughter over and over again, but I just love to see how much enjoyment she gets out of reading this.
