3 out of 5 stars It's okay...   February 23, 2007

It's not as great as some of Levine's other work, but if you're a 11 year old girl, then I guess it's pretty much a masterpiece. For myself, it was too short and the pace was patchy.

This story could've been great, with Levine's talent she could easily have made this into an intelligent thought provoking novel. The characters are little confusing and distracting, there are little explanations for the things that happen or indeed the "wish".

I would compare this to "Are You There God? It's Me Margeret" by Judy Blume. When you read for the first time at the age of 9 or 10, it's brilliant, a work of genius, but if you were to go back to it a few years later you might just wonder what the fuss was about. I'm giving it 3 stars because I feel that it just wasn't enough for me, but I can appreciate that for younger girls it's probably every bit as fantastic as Levine intended it to be.

This is a really awesome book. Wilma is really unpopular at Claverford Middle School. But when she gives up her seat on the train to a lady, she gets granted a wish. It's to be the most popular girl at Claverford. Is she wishing carefully?
