5 out of 5 stars Writing most fab.   March 27, 2008

Very very very very funny! I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book and I certainly didn't get what I thought. However it had to be the funniest book I've read for a while. If this is going to be the standard Julian Clary sets then this is a very talented writer. From the very first sentence you have an idea this is going to be an unusual book!

I genuinely didn't want to put it down. I had to read it over 3 nights and wanted to have read it in one go, it was that enjoyable. The character of Johnny Debonair is fabulous, the problem was though, was that I kept picturing Julian Clary himself. Maybe this wasn't a bad thing as he seemed to describe the character very much like himself.

A laugh a minute but with a sad tale underlying about loneliness and how we exclude ourselves from those around us because we chase what we think are our dreams. Fabulous narrative with well formed characters. You really will be able to visualise all of the characters, even the ones you might not like.

Without any experience of a world like this I just let myself settle in the for the ride. Do the same and you shouldn't be disappointed. I look forward to more fiction from Julian Clary.

I urge you to carry on reading-if you can get through the first 5 pages, then you will enjoy the book!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!   January 21, 2008
I've just finished this novel in about 2 days! I found it very enjoyable even though some of the plot lines were pretty daft and some of the character names were corny. It was pure filth in parts and I aged about 3 weeks when my little old mum picked it up and atarted flicking through it. I may blush when the librarian checks it back in next week. Highly recommended tho. Just be careful where you leave it! I can't wait for his next offering.

this book is absolutely hilarious.

it only takes four sentences until we are given a glorious description of our hero's famed "member", and we are told shortly after that it could "throb and twitch on demand" and its ejaculate could "fill a beakerful at a moment's notice ... and not before". lovely imagery.

in julian clary's words the whole story is made insanely believable. this could actually happen!

plot: no real holes
grammar: no noticeable mistakes
prose: well written
dialogue: believable
the cover: looks dreadful - needs to be done again

4 out of 5 stars Fabulous!   October 24, 2007
I bought this book as I enjoy Julian Clary's strange sense of humour, and wasn't disappointed. I realised it would be a quirky and lighthearted book, not an indepth tome about a serial killer, and it delivered.

Like other reviewers, I did find JD's obsession with the size of his manhood and good looks a little wearing, but the laugh out loud sections were worth that tiny criticism.

Julian's voice sounded in my head throughout the book, and I think that's what made it so enjoyable for me. The plot was a little silly in places, but like before, it isn't a serious book.

Well done Julian, can we expect another?
