Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Karin Slaughter's reputation grows apace, and Indelible sports all the customary fingerprints. Over the space of a handful of novels, the author has built a reputation as one of the key crime novelists at work today. What's her secret? In some ways, Slaughter's work is a refining of the Southern Gothic idiom that has been the bedrock of so much atmospheric work in the past, but Slaughter's way with the form is entirely her own, and despite the lashings of atmosphere, she never forgets that a crime novelist has to be rigorous in the arena of plotting--and that's her strongest suit.

Medical examiner Sara Linton and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver take a trip from the pressures of Heartsdale (in the hope of straightening out their relationship), but a detour to Jeffrey's hometown lands them in the most difficult case of their career.

Readers are probably growing weary of the inevitable comparison novels like Slaughter's draw with those of Thomas Harris--and rightly so. But the trouble is, such comparisons are right on the nail for Slaughter. She may not quite have the older writer's authority, but she is undoubtedly skilled at creating a delicious, unsettling tension in the reader--as is very much the case in Indelible. And she's careful, too, to ensure that the relationship between Sara Linton and Jeffrey Tolliver isn't sidelined by the accelerating tension--that relationship is moved on considerably here. The fulsome praise on the jacket from such fellow scribes as John Connolly and Michael Connelly is more than professional courtesy here--they're fully justified by the work on offer.--Barry Forshaw

4 out of 5 stars The story goes on!   June 3, 2008
I enjoyed this novel, unfortunatley I have read them out of sequence! No major issue with that as you just get a better insight into Sara and Jefferys lives and characters! Like some of the other reviwers how did the whole town not know that Jared was Jefferys lad, when it only took one look from Sara! A must read for all Slaughter fans!

4 out of 5 stars C+ for effort   May 30, 2008

Indelible sees Jeffrey head back to his roots when himself and Sara decide to go away for a weekend. But instead of a happy reunion with friends and family the weekend goes awray when one of Jeffrey's friends kills an intruder in his own home. Sara & Jeffrey are caught in the middle and the weekend could make or break their relationship which is only in its infancy as it is.

I can't say that I was wowed by Indelible purely because I'd read Kisscut and Faithless beforehand and Indelible just seemed really tame compared to them. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad book, it just didn't quite pack the punch of the other two. We do however get a more in-depth understanding of who Jeffrey is and why and we see how his bond to Sara was started.

2 out of 5 stars Poor attention to detail   September 7, 2007

About two thirds through the book and I find it dissapointing. Attention todetail is just one of my critisisms. I dont think I am giving away the plot by giving examples - we find Sara performing an autopsy on a man and after pulling down the sheet covering his body she spots his pants (american term for trousers or jeans) are too loose like he has lost weight recently - and yet on the following page she asks where his clothes are and is told that his jeans and shirt have been bagged and sent for analysis and that he was not wearing any underwear. So what happened to teh pants he was wearing a few minutes earlier?

In another scene a policemans hair is descibed in detail down to the fact that he is combing it over an emerging bald patch - a few lines later he is adjusting his hat - how do we know about the bald spot if it is covered by a hat?

There are also a couple of items, crucial to the plot, so I will not give the game away here, which I find hard to swallow and do not believe would have gone unoticed until Sara gets invloved many years after the events.

Sorry - this is the first book review I have written, but I do think that of all the genre's, crime writing should accurate.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   September 6, 2007

I loved this book, it switches from present to the past making it impossible to put this book down as you are so eager to find out what happens next.

4 out of 5 stars Gripped from the start   September 6, 2007

This is the first Karin Slaughter book I've read & I was gripped from the beginning. I didn't like the characters much but the actual story was brilliant.

I think there's another book before this one but it didn't matter that I hadn't read it as it wasn't really relevant although this book didn't really explain the characters dislike for Lena, which I assume has something to do with a different book.
