5 out of 5 stars Do consider this book   August 18, 2003

I first discovered this book while on holiday in lovely Jamaica at my hotel. When i arrived back i ordered a copy straight away. The book starts off with on a gentle motion of discription and then suddenly places you into a great action thriller.
One of the most unrealistic and unbelieveable books about, but i know you won't beable to put it down.

3 out of 5 stars Not to be taken too seriously...   November 23, 2001

I'd agree it's OK in the Sun with a glass of something local, but don't think too hard about the totally implausible plot! (BTW Amazon, they're black truffles, not white ones...)

The fault lies in this: if you had a briefcase full of trade secrets worth millions would you trust a complete stranger to handle the transfer, and then when he messed up, would you rely on him to get them back for you? (Rather than all those highly trained goons you've already got working for you?) And would you call in your ex-model ex-girlfriend to pose as his secretary?

Of course not! Bennett is clearly modelled on Mayle, with a few character flaws added, and I wonder if this is why he couldn't see the fatal problem with the central credibility of his story.

Read and enjoy - just don't ponder too hard!

4 out of 5 stars Amusing, escapist holiday reading   August 10, 1999

An enjoyable and gentle read, best devoured on a hot day in the south of France with a glass of wine or two.
