4 out of 5 stars Needs updating   July 28, 2008

This is a good read. The book was last updated in 2003 and thus there is no mention of aromatase inhibitors for the treatment of hormone sensitive tumours and other advances in treatment over the last five years. Time for another update I think.

5 out of 5 stars A bible for people wanting to help themselves through cancer treatment   April 2, 2008

I have been treated for breast cancer for 8 months now and am just about to have my radiotherapy. This was one of several books I bought when I was diagnosed and it is the only one I have returned to again and again throughout each stage of my treatment. What I have found particularly helpful has been the advice to help support your body through the treatment. I am quite sure that I have coped with the chemo and the surgery much better as a result of the tips on supporting your immune system and coping with the side effects. I would highly recommend it

5 out of 5 stars An invaluable companion to all women.   March 12, 2001

This comprehensive book is far more than its title suggests. Apart from going into diet in an in-depth and non-prescriptive way, it also covers all aspects of breast cancer treatments and ways of minimising their side effects.

An invaluable companion, it is written in a very human tone. It has sustained me through my cancer treatment and set me on a path for the future. I am recommending it unreservedly to all my friends .

5 out of 5 stars A book for all women to read.   July 28, 2000

Breast Cancer affects many women in the U.K. Figures vary from 1 in 9 to 1 in 11 of all women will develop breast cancer. This book is not just for those of us who have already been diagnosed with the disease but for all women if they wish to protect themselves.Reading this book helped me to understand some of the reasons why I developed breast cancer. I feel therefore that I have some control over this terrifying disease because if I understand what caused it then I can take steps to prevent a recurrence. As a result I have changed my diet considerably and feel better than I have in years. This is a book not just about diet but about lifestyle and the fact that the author has had breast cancer herself adds credence. The book is very well written with lots of research quoted to back up any claims about which foods help in the battle against cancer and which environmental factors may be the cause.

5 out of 5 stars An inspiration   March 27, 2000

I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 32 - a statistic that isn't supposed to happen. However, this book has been my inspiration to fight and hopefully overcome this disease, for myself and for my family and especially my two young children. I have subsequently changed my diet considerably, following ideas in the book and at present I am getting through my chemotherapy much better than I imagined. Its a must for all woman who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
