Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An absolute delight   September 1, 2008
I defy anyone not to be totally captivated by these delightful tales. Margaret Mahy has such a talent for writing stories that work on multiple levels, so that children and adults all find it interesting. I recently read the whole of "The Librarian and the Robbers" in church as a parable, and have previously used "The Great Piratical Rumbustification" in the same way. I have just bought two more copies - one from two girls under seven, and one for a retired librarian. Both were delighted.

5 out of 5 stars I would love to have taken part in the fun!   March 10, 2000

The first story is about three young adventurous brothers who end up with an old pirate as their babysitter. This pirate and all the pirates in the area are just itching to have a party, a real "rumbustification". Great character development of the father of the three boys. I have three small boys myself, and can just imagine how great they would see it, having a fun spirited pirate for a babysitter!

The second story is about a librarian kidnapped by robbers, who aren't so great at robbing. Read on how Miss Laburnum, the librarian, reforms the robbers and is loved by ONE and all. Three cheers for librarians!

Both short stories will bring smiles to your face and chuckles all over the place!(and I'm 34 years old!)
