Ballet Shoes February 2, 2004 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bought this for my daughter(7 at the time)who is mad on ballet, and it quickly became her favourite book. It is the story of three sisters (who are not really sisters at all, but brought together to live in the same household by chance)and describes all their ups and downs as they train at stage school. My daughter particularly identified with the youngest sister, Posy, an aspiring dancer who is full of character. All three girls are completely believable, and despite the length of time ago it was written, act in many ways just like modern day sisters! The first time round I read it aloud as the vocabulary is a little old-fashioned and complicated for a 7 year old to read unaided. Now 8, my daughter has since read it many, many times over to herself. I didn't read this as a child and I missed out - as an adult I enjoyed reading it as much as my daughter.
my favourite children's book September 28, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love this book so much - it's probably what got me interested in ballet and acting. The story of three orphan girls in post-War London, with their guardian struggling to find the money for drama school, and how bit by bit they learn how to dance, act and be less selfish. I've read it about 20 times.
A timeless classic. March 13, 2002 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had this book as a child, and read it many times, and loved it. I'm now about to buy it for my daughter - I can't wait to read it again!
One of the sweetest stories ever written. October 29, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was one of my favourite books when I was little. It is just the sweetest story. I must have read it about a million times. Interestingly the character Posy appears in another of Noel Streatfield's books involving a girl wanting to learn to dance, another wonderful story called The Painted Garden. Ballet Shoes is a must read for all of Streatfield's fans and just for people who like sweet stories.
