A very useful book for all traders July 2, 2008 Richard Farleigh provides a vast amount of useful information here. The discussion of the dangers of trading/ investing should be essential reading for anyone considering major investments. I would have liked some mention of short selling however.
A succinct masterpiece January 17, 2008 Most private investors concentrate upon equity markets and property. This book opens the reader's eyes to the opportunities available in all the major markets, including bonds, currencies and commodities; taking positions both long and short. It is, if you like, a DIY hedge-fund manual, written by a highly successful, retired hedge-fund manager. It contains a blue-print for successful speculation and its genius lies in its simplicity.
Really "100" secret strategies? January 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
As far as I can tell, this is the same book as "Taming the Lion", ISBN 1897597622, which is the small-format hardback edition that I have.
I like Richard Farleigh a lot, and he was one of my favourite 'dragons'on the TV show. His reputation speaks for itself, but I think that 100 is perhaps too high a number for a set of 'secret' strategies. I'm sure I have one or two secret strategies, but not one hundred of them. I notice that a reviewer of the other edition distilled them down to five themes.
In terms of advice for amateur investors: some of the strategies will prove to be useful, and some will not. For example; anyone can look at published P/E ratios or identify price trends, but you need Richard's clout to gain access to a company's management team.

Don't bother with this one October 17, 2007 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
I'm not sure what made me buy this book in the first place. Richard Farleigh may have made lots of money from investing and I still don't know how he did it. When I first read it, I thought this book would take time to get used to it. Then I tried to read and understand it again. Maybe I am not very clever. Basic problems with this book are; font to small to read comfortably. Most of the time Richard Farleigh used words and "invester talk" that a novice does not understand. I took it to read on the train again today, give it one more try. But I ended up leaving on the train. There is not one point of knowledge I took from "100 Secret Strategies..", they remain a secret to me.
Richard Farleigh should stick to investing, not writing books.
