I have been giving my daughter these little books for a couple of years and she really likes them (she does 8-9 papers now). Because of the way they are set out they are not too wordy. There is a piece of text to read (prose or poetry) then short answer questions and each paper is only 30 questions which is about 2 pages. They do get your child thinking and you may need to go through a couple of them until they get the hang of it. The great thing is, once they get the hang of it they can pretty much do them by themselves in their own time. i do not hang over my daughter and I do not make her do them. She has got better at them just by repeated exposure. I also do not time her I am just getting her used to doing them. The knock effect is evident with her school work. I would even recommend them as an aid to help with english as you can work through them together. The same goes for the maths ,verbal and non verbal reasoning as the format is the same. If you are thinking about the 11+ in the next few years this is a good place to start!
