I found this story of wartime England very interesting. My grandma was evacuated as a child then and I love listening to her stories about the war. Tegan goes to visit her granny in London and discovers an old gas mask in a box. When she puts it on she finds she has gone back in time to wartime London when her granny was a child and her sister, Alice , was still alive. Through a series of flashbacks Tegan tries to alter the past in order to keep the family together. Everything depends on a child's toy called Monkey. The story keeps you in suspense to the last pages as you go on a gripping adventure with Tegan into the past. The descriptions of wartime London in the blitz are very good and it made me understand the difficulties facing ordinary families during the war and how they struggled to survive.
