1 out of 5 stars Unreadable   September 9, 2008

Smug and patronising, full of unfunny in-jokes and sub-undergraduate political comment. The subject matter would have been interesting if the author had written about it, but this book is so annoying as to be unreadable.

5 out of 5 stars I loved this - I wonder if I read the same book as the previous reviewer?   September 4, 2008

In Search of Albion is a delight - a book that links the folk customs of England with the music of the people of England. Colin Irwin has a real depth of musical knowledge that he uses to entertain and inform us, as he discusses what makes England so very English. Reminiscent of Bill Bryson and Tony Hawks, but with the witty knowledge of Mike Harding to boot... Colin's account of the Durham Miners Gala was spot on - this may be a very personal account, but it's accurate too. I loved this book and didn't want it to end.
