Not for puppy training October 7, 2008 I first would like to say that this book is well written. It's based more for older dog training rather than puppies or younger dogs. Loosely focused on "police dog" obedience training. If you have trained junior/adult dogs and have some handlers skills then this will help you refine your training, otherwise you'll be left in the dark with the vauge guidelines.
SIMPLY THE BEST! March 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
In my humble opinion this is the absolute best dog training manual that has ever been written ! there is no force, no clickers, no punishments just plain common sense. John Fisher is sadly no longer with us, but he was one of the best animal behavourists in the country, and put this to good use when he devised this method of dog training. I first put this into practice nearly 20 years ago when the book first was published, I trained 3 GSD's and one Labrador over the space of many years with this method, and ended up with 4 dogs thst were a joy to work and live with. You do NOT have to want competition dogs, this method is ideal to have a well behaved family pet...small or large, that is a joy to have around especially at the vets ! a small example of this book...a barking dog ? teach it to bark on command and you can teach it to stop..on command ! this works! Finally in my humble opinion if you have this book, you need no other. Ros Moore
a very helpful read September 19, 2005 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Being a professional dog handler I found this book very helful. Having taken on a three and a half year old GSD with limited back ground knowledge about the dog many of the methods in the book really do work. A must for people wanting to improve their dogs training and behaviour.
Not as good as I had hoped December 27, 2004 13 out of 28 found this review helpful
Having recently purchased a Border Collie puppy of 8 weeks old, I bought this book in the hope it would help with her training. However, I found it very difficult to use the ignore bad behaviour and reward good behaviour principle, and think this book much more suited to the training of an older dog rather than a young puppy.
Please read this book! October 30, 2004 26 out of 28 found this review helpful
A fantastic book, easy enough for anyone to understand. One of the best dog books on the market, and I have read a few! An effective, cruelty free guide to dogs and dog training. Every dog owner should read this book.
