Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Hard to begin with, but its worth it   February 17, 2006
As another student of Nicola Lacey, I had to buy this book and upon opening it was extremely daunted by its layout and seeming complexity. However, although it can be difficult to read, the way Nicola writes is thought provoking, extensive and unbiased, if sometimes a little liberal. Once you get your head round it, its definately worth the trouble and proves perfect for answering theory questions in exams. Obviously, its ESSENTIAL for anyone studying at the LSE.

4 out of 5 stars A new take on criminal law   September 4, 2005
As a student of Nicola Lacey this text book seemed like an obvious choice. This criminal law book is like no other, it is incredibly taxing compared to others such as Ashworths, but is much more inciteful and thought provoking. It may seem daunting for the 1st term of the 1st year of your degree but by the time exams come around it will be possible!!

5 out of 5 stars Clearly Criminal...   November 22, 2002

This book appears, at first, to be quite daunting to the new law student but on reading the first few sections, this was obviously not the case!
Whilst using appropriate language, this book somehow manages to introduce criminal law in a simple, concise way. This book offers the reader a clear picture of how criminal law works. One area flows gently but clearly into the next providing a foundation to build on and 'pad' with further reading. This book is a great introductory book to criminal law!
Not only does this text give the law as it is written, it gives examples of how the law works, how the law is applied and why - brilliant for those amongst us who have chosen to study law.
This book is good for reference and the format makes things very easy to find.
This text will be a great revision guide as when one case is mentioned, another is given for comparison.
The book contains many cases but does not seem to overwhelm the reader with too much information at once and seems to concentrate on understanding an issue before moving on. This book is very easy to read, not filled with unnecessary jargon and gives the reader an interesting start to the subject.
No previous knowledge required to read and understand this book - I promise! :-)
