5 out of 5 stars Paranormal....page turner   May 10, 2008
Ah! what a lovely book. A good pace.
Burke is a bad boy and he does some very stupid things; after a near death experience he changes.
Catherine is strong minded simple woman who dislikes Burkes as he is responsible for her husband's death. Yet they are drawn to each other. Both lonely in their own way. Burke promises Alfred that he would take care of her and comes to see her after he recovers from his injuries from war. He thinks her to be a cold woman, who had driven his friend to drink. What a suprise he gets...

This is what I like the female not to pushy or mushy but gentle with such strength of character. And the hero or rather rake, completely floored by the unexpected response to this kind of emotion. Well done

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful and touching read!!   April 1, 1998

I just couldn't put it down once I started. Barbara Dawson Smith is an outstanding author. I love her books. Burke is a wonderful hero, as is with all rakes, of course. But he is trying to change his ways. The fascinatind part of the story is Burkes near death experience and the strange visions he gets of Catherine, visions that soon show themselves as Alfred, Catherines dead husband's. Does he have Alfred's memory? Its a truly touching story of redemption and everlasting love. Read it, you won't be disappointed!
