5 out of 5 stars Where there is no doctor   October 2, 2005

This publication is such a good one that demonstrates how traditional African healing practices are considered to be of no use. The title presumes there are no doctors but there are traditional doctors with specialised knowledge of diseases and have been very effective in treating man diseases.

Anyone reading this book should enjoy the information contained in it but should keep in mind, the peoples medicine exists and has to be promoted to. Environmental diseases became much more widespread with the rapid advances in urbanisation, modernisation and globalisation. Natural settings would be able to take care of their preys should their conditions remained thesame. Africa has tradtional midwives, healers and sootsayers that perform thesame duties as does modern doctors. Lets respect their efforts and pharmaceutical companies should avoid their dubious efforts to bribe developing country governments to kill traditional healing practices by preventing traditional from harvesting medicinal plants from forests.

I rate this book 5 stars because the information is comprehensive and has satisfied the desires of many western researchers in Africa who are blind to local realities
