Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars overly pedantic   November 15, 2008
I received this book from Amazon yesterday and after reading some chapters, I would definitely advise you not to buy this book. The way Ogden explains simple concepts such as the psychological steps smokers undergo in order to quit has been made almost unreadable. Some basics are missing and the whole book seems to be made up of mostly waffle.

Quite simply, it seems she is showing off and this book is too big for its boots. Instead, I would recommend Alder as it is an easy read and will get you by in most medical schools.

3 out of 5 stars Rather theoretical and neglects personality research   December 25, 2002

An excellent introduction to Health Psychology, but I did find it a bit too theoretical and rather basic at times. There is also relatively little emphasis on personality and health, despite strong evidence for interactions between these. I expected to see coverage of the five factor model and health behaviours/outcomes, and more on heart disease and hostility. But good coverage and excellent set of references for further reading.

as a student nurse, it was vital to myself that i found a book that tackeled the different elements of psychology within nursing. It can truely be said that this book offers depth and insight to various different issues helping to evaluate and support my studying
