Paul's farewell February 14, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book contains a series of 11 sermons preached by Dr. Lloyd-Jones at Westminster Chapel during 1964. The sermons are all based on Paul's words found in 2 Timothy 1:12: "I am not ashamed for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that, which I have committed unto Him until that day." As Paul lies in prison, it was a difficult and testing time. His death was immanent, and his young friend Timothy, who had been put in charge of the church at Ephesus, would have been worried about the future of the Christian church. Many had already left the faith. Therefore, Paul writes to Timothy to encourage him. Lloyd-Jones, in expounding this one verse, shows how to face life with all its uncertainty and difficulties. he shows us how Paul managed to triumph in spite of his hardships. Paul was able to cope, not as a result of stoicism or having a 'stiff upper lip,' but rather, as a result of a faith and confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ. Here's a message that's as relevant for us today as in the first century. You will find this book to be most challenging and uplifting.
