Reasonable book on JXTA July 14, 2003

This is a reasonable book on JXTA. Part 1 gives a fairly good introduction to P2P technology, but Part 2 is a very repetitive description of the JXTA protocols (the specifications of which can be found at jxta.org and provide more background info). Part3 covers JXTA implementation - which this book takes to mean the implementation of JXTA applications - so if, like me you were expecting some in depth descriptions of how JXTA works, you're in for a disappointment! Part 4 is a set of appendicies that serve as a JXTA reference (installation & building, Java binding API, other language bindings, etc.)All in all, this book is fine for someone starting to use JXTA for P2P development or someone who wants to know what all the fuss is about. However, if you're after a more in-depth technical discussion of how JXTA works, then (like me) this isn't the book for you.
