Buy a dictionary instead August 15, 2004 36 out of 36 found this review helpful
Although the book is well priced, and does contain 1,001 common everyday Spanish words, its hard to find anything more substantial to recommend this book with. Only having the words in Spanish leaves the beginner nowhere when trying to use the language, and the example sentences are pretty pointless, since the reader is most likely to be looking the word up to find out what it means in a given context, not put it in a different one. For the small amount of money saved, this book isn't worth the purchase over a decent pocket dictionary, which will contain far more words (and in many cases, some examples) and work both ways.
Basic - Useful September 27, 2003 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
Very basic book, but has the most common words and phrases you will use when starting spanish!. Very helpful for the very beginners and if you need to learn abit of spanish for your holidays.
Interesting June 12, 2003 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
It is like a dictionary but with sentences to try as well. The sentences are translated to English. It is a shame that is not followed by the phonetic transcription to aid the pronunciation. But, the simple layout will help find the words quickly and get an accurate definition and use of the word. The meanings are ussually about 1 to 3 so the user doesn't have to choose from many. At the end it has a useful sectin of categories for the days of the week and months, numbers ...etc. And some aid for the pronunciation. The format is very simple without pictures so it is very straight forward. For the price you get a very nice little book.
a helpful addition September 30, 2001 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
I have only been learning Spanish for a year and enjoy just leafing through this book casually. It is by no means a great teaching aid or aid memoire, but it does help build vocabulary.I try to pick up a word a week just for fun. You won't be using this as a referance manual, but you will enjoy picking through it from time to time.
Good handy look up book. December 5, 2000 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
