Good general textbook December 12, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book covers a lot of the theory for anaesthesia, particularly part 1 exam content. It is reasonably laid out although more wordy than A to Z (which is a reference book anyway really) so is good for reading when you first start learning the theory. The content is not enough for the exam on it's own but I found the style easier for reading than other books. Another advantage is that it is paired with the QBase 6 MCQ book which I found was closest in style to part 1 when I did it (Oct 2005).
simple and exam oriented September 21, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
this book gives the basic ideas of anaesthesia in a simple way which is easy to remember especially useful for the junior staff. It is very much exam oriented which follows the topics for the theory and will help you for your primary as well as secondary.
SUPERB BOOK FOR PRIMARY FRCA July 6, 2001 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Fundamentals of anaesthesia is probably the only text book written for primary frca exam. Its very very useful in that it is written keeping the syllabus of royal college in mind.It covers widely all the chapters and is very useful for those selected for vivas. It covers all 3 parts of exam viz, physics, pharmacology and physiology. If one has the basic knowledge of all these subjects, then Fundamentals is enough to pass the exam! But, it is not so helpful for mcqs as it is for vivas!! Further, some chapters like action potential, valsalva and cardiac cycle which are the most frequent questions in vivas are poorly dealt with. The physics part needs another text book(Parbrook) to supplement it.But, in nutshell, it is the most useful book for primary frca and I recommend it whole-heartedly!!Thanks to the authors!!
essential for the trainee and the trained anaesthetist June 15, 2001 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Pinnock et al have divided their book into the same four sections of the FRCA syllabus: Clinical anaesthetics, Physics & Measurement, Physiology, and Pharmacology. This structure makes it the ideal textbook for preparation for both the primary and final FRCA exams. (Although few candidates would be confident enough to use it alone.) Its comprehensive and detailed, yet readable content, also make it a very user friendly reference for teaching and revision in later practice.
Short cuts to FRCA Part 1. June 12, 2001 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
A well structured guide to those targetting their exams, and like an organized Approach to tackle the exams. Best for those with Minimum time and Maximum gain Approach.
