This is the first Charlotte Bingham novel I read. It was thrust at me by my mother when I was desperately looking for a new book to read and I was at first uncertain as to whether this would be up my street, as it happened though it was.
The love story itself is fairly usual, although pleasant, but what really interested me was to learn more of the conflicting opinions facing artists of the end of the 19th century with regard to appropriate or 'good' style and subject matter. I am definitely no connoisseur of art or this period of history so can't comment on accuracy , but as a layman I found it a really informative and absorbing book. It is for this reason that I think this book may appeal also to others and I would definitly recommend it as a worthwhile read.
