It works. September 21, 2008 I bought the book after too many times waking up thinking "I must cut down" with vague memories of the night before which often included passing out on the sofa. I bought the book on amazon after reading reviews. I read it all and followed the instructions and it works. I am a non-drinker with no desire to drink at all. I am happier and more energetic and I get on with things without the thought of when my first drink will be at the back of my mind. Its a strange feeling at the moment, I stay up a lot later and have more interest and enthusiasm but don't seem to know where to direct it. I couldn' drink alcohol now even if I wanted to so only read this book if you are prepared to accept the life changing consequences. It does work!
it works August 31, 2008 after drinking for 35 years (AGE 16 TO AGE 51) I did not consider myself an alcoholic. hangovers, arguments, violence , crazy decisions were never enough to make me quit. one sunday morning i woke up to find i had done something mad. i knew something had to change. i started to read this book as a reluctant sceptic. i finished it with a sense of joy and purpose. this book does not lecture , judge or send you on a guilt trip.it opens your eyes. my only regret is that i did not read it when i was about 20. alan carr probably saved my life. i salute him
It Somewhat Works August 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read this book and managed to stop for four months, which was great. The things you run away from don't stop once you stop drinking. Thats the reality of life I guess. I started drinking again more than before after it wore off. Am re-reading the book again in the hope that it will work. Did the clinic in London too and stopped for one week. Actually, feel like need to do this regularly and you do need to say that you will NOT drink again and never doubt that decision. Alcohol is such a wicked thing and so hard to escape from once you are deep in the trap.
It works! July 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used Allen Carr's book to give up smoking, but was really worried that the alcohol book would not work. I started EasyWay to Control Alcohol six months ago and put it down two thirds of the way through because my urge to drink had not subsided. I think I was worried that I would get to the end of the book and it wouldn't work and then I would be stuck with trying to find another solution to a ten year drinking problem.Warped logic, I know. I, however, read all 70 of the reviews on Amazon.co.uk, which gave me the impetus to read the book again two weeks ago, this time in its entirety. I have not had a drink or felt like one since and without a doubt, this book may save my life. I believe that I was one stage short of becoming a chronic alcoholic, but would get uncontrollably drunk at least two or three nights a week. I am sleeping better than I have done in 10 years, feel great and realise that this is the first time in 20 years that I have not been dependent on alcohol, cigarettes or drugs. It's not a bad feeling....
Allen Carr, you rock. Thank you! Hope you are in a wonderful place....
Good For Those With Occassional Drinking June 23, 2008 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
I bought this book in the hope that I could curb or either stop drinking.
Basically, my situation is that I started drinking from the age of 15. I used to just drink on the weekends and found that as I have gotten older, the drinking has increased.
I went from getting vey drunk on the weekends; this gradually changed as I went to university where I found that I drank most nights. I am now 28 years old and drink almost every other night. The problem that I have is that when I drink, I drink until I cannot physically drink anymore. I drink because I like the way I can temporarily escape my normal life.
I bought this book because of some of the reviews that I felt related to my personal situation.
I think that [without giving away what is told in the book] this book is great for those that think they may just be starting to escalate into an alcohol fuelled oblivion. However, for me, I found that after going to AA and other organisations that this still couldn't 'magically' help me allieviate my drink demonds.
I found with this book that with enough constant 're-reading' of this book and 'self-evaluation' for those that drink now and again, it could really help you, no end.
For me however, I believe I am beyond that point and I think no matter how much reading; for those that have a deep set dependence of alcohol, this is an eye opener, but it may not be enough to make you get to the 'sober' person you want to be.
I wanted so much for this to be my 'saviour' but realised that perhaps those with a serious alcohol dependancy may need to do something more than just read this book. What? You are asking me, but I don't know exactly what to suggest. The book say's it is not about willpower, but I think to some extent it is, when all you want is the next glass of wine..
I'm sorry if this review is'nt glowing but I am simply saying that for me [who can't wait for a cold glass of wine, even though I know I will turn into a demon] found that it did not help me the way I really hoped it would.
I hope so much that if you are looking to change your ways that this will help you. For me,personally, I feel that I need to be locked up and go for it cold turkey as I am exasperated. Perhaps it is willpower, I'm not sure, but I wish you the best.
