When I first started reading this book, I thought it was a bit too young for me (I'm 15). However, I kept on going and it has turned out to be one of the best books I have ever read. The main character is 12 years old Isabel, who lives in the elizabethan times and can't quite find her place. She dreams of daring adventures, like the ones boys always have in books, but when she tries to have some of her own, things go horribly wrong and she is sent away to live with her "religious and good" aunt. On her way there she is robbed and has to travel with a theatre group in order to arrive safely at her aunts. However, when she arrives there she finds a quite different person from what she had expected.
This book shows what it was like for young and wild girls, like Isabel, to grow up in elizabethan times and how this particular girl found her place. I found this book magical and exciting untill the last page, but what I liked most about it, was that it shows that independent and strong-minded women also existed then.
