Alternative title! August 17, 2005 18 out of 21 found this review helpful
This is, as other reviewers have said, an excellent book, which I highly recommend. However, be aware that it's a retitled version; it was originally published as 'Curtain Up' or 'Other People's Shoes'. Make sure you're not buying a duplicate!
lovely book for children August 14, 1999 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book was a lovely book many children will enjoy. I read it when I was somewhere between 9 and 12, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It will fill girls' heads with visions of success and possibilities will abound for them.
A must-read for any Hollywood bound girl April 11, 1999 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I first read Theater Shoes at age eight. Since then, I have read it at least twice a year. I still enjoy the suspenseful activites of the Warren family, still wish the best of luck to the Forbes trio, and still cry at the same points in the book that I did nearly twenty years ago. An excellent read for any mother and daughter to share.
For every girl wanting to find her place in the world. January 4, 1999 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
Just around the block and through the door, you can find a wonderful world where you can find yourself and your friends. A book you MUST read. SO very easy. ANd fun. Help Sorrel find herself and in doing that come in contact with her dead mother. In doing that, Sorrel and the Fossil sisters find YOU. No matter how many times you read it. It will help you find YOUR place in the world.
Charming, simple fare December 1, 1997 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
I admit that I have never quite outgrown children's books, of which this is definitely one. It is set in England in 1942-43 and is about three children named Sorrel, Mark and Holly. Their mother is dead and their father missing when the grandfather that they were living with dies. They are sent to live with their maternal grandmother, about whom they know nothing because their mother eloped and was never forgiven. It turns out that their mother was a member of a very famous stage family; so they are sent to the Children's Academy of Dancing and Stage Training so that they can carry on the tradition. This book serves as a sequel to Ballet Shoes but it manages to be more successful than most sequels in that it doesn't follow the original characters' lives after they have resolved their primary drama, but it keeps them as peripheral to the main plot. This way, the reader knows what happened to them but is not disappointed by the fact that they have become so much less interesting. There really isn't too much commentary that can be given on this book. It's very nice if you like this sort of thing but probably be very annoying if you don't
