Amazon.co.uk Review
Where does Tiger Woods go for help when his swing's low on oil and the wheels are falling off his game? To Butch Harmon. Harmon comes from a family tree of golf instructors, and his approach breaks the game down into ball striking, the short game, course management, and--don't laugh--physical conditioning. A facile communicator who makes the technical understandable, and the game seem less daunting, Harmon is particularly noted for his skill for making on-the- fly corrections to the games of advanced players. Here he shares some of the tune-up tips he's geared specifically for Greg Norman, Davis Love III, and Tiger Woods.

4 out of 5 stars Informative, but more 'real' pictures. Not illustrations   September 5, 2000
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

Informative book inspired mostly by the teachings of his father. Sounds like he was a hell of a guy. The text on the whole is clear and informative but get the impression that as the book was written many moons ago, I am left wondering if all the theories Butch mentions are still what he practices today. If it is then great - if not then the book needs to be updated without having to buy more books with his 'newer'ideas. As a golfer of reasonable standard I nevertheless enjoyed the read enormously and will go on to buy his other instructional books and videos. All power to your games people.

4 out of 5 stars Need more illustrations or pictures   December 16, 1998

Crystallizes the important aspects of swing mechanics. Reduces swing checkpoints in memorizable chunks.

Butch, gotta add more illustrations and pictures.

3 out of 5 stars Gotta have more illustrations or pictures!   December 1, 1998

Butch should have added more illustrations or pictures of the points he was trying to make. It is a challenge to visualize what the text was saying. In golf, you gotta see it!

5 out of 5 stars The Finest Golf Instruction Book in Print Today   May 9, 1997
As a golfer of over 35 years, a collector of golf books, and a serious student of the game, I believe "The Four Cornerstones of Winning Golf" is the most easily understood instructional books published on golf and a must for both the beginner or advanced golfer. Key to successful golf is an understanding of the fundamental concepts of the swing as well as the ability to form simple, repeatable thoughts as you play a shot. Butch Harmon provides the reader tightly focused instructional text along with with first rate photos and illustrations essential to understanding the basics of the game. Unlike many books that stress the "simplicity of the game", Harmon minces no words on the importance of physical conditioning to achieve a higher level of play. It is this candor and his solid recommendations on how to development better golfing fitness that sets this books above the rest. In short, "The Four Cornerstones of Winning Golf" belongs on the bookshelf of any golfer wanting to better understand the game and improve his or her ability.
