5 out of 5 stars Skilful comment on the English language   February 18, 2007
I loved this unassuming short novel because it illustrates clearly how living language changes. Also, I love the way the protaganist takes up his personal power to produce change. The plot is quite straight forward, it is the ideas behind the words that promote interesting discussion about the English language. A clever, witty and quick read for 11-14's, me, I'm just waiting for some 'frindle's' to appear in WHSmiths.

5 out of 5 stars Calling all kids! Read this book!   January 15, 2004

I have to say Frindel is one of the best books I've read in my life. No childrens novel comes close to this one. The idea of this book is amazing. It's serious yet funny at the same time. All young readers will laugh at this masterpiece. I can honestly say I didn't want this book to end and I was so sad when I got to the last few pages. This is probabbly the first book I could say grabbed me when I read it. I really didn't want to read this but I had to. We had to pick up book from the school library and unfortunettly I was the last one to the library so I didn't get much of a selection so I just grabbed a book off the shelf and it happened to be Frindel. I started reading it and first I wasn't looking forward to reading it but once I started the first chapter I couldn't stop reading it.
All young readers, read this book. I can almost guarantee you'll love it. It's great for a book report or a book club or just for fun. Get out to your loca bookstore as fast as you can and buy this book, you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent read-aloud for a class!   May 24, 2003
Great book, suitable for ALL ages, abilities, from about 8 up. I read it to a class of 8-12 year olds, and they all enjoyed it. I felt this was a real "find". Thank you to Andrew Clements for this quirky book.

5 out of 5 stars Its a great book   August 15, 1999
It took me a long time to read Frindle, but I loved it . It was a very funny story. My favorite part was when Mrs. Granger made a sign that said "anyone who is heard using the word frindle instead of the word pen will stay after school and write this sentence one hundred times : I am writing this punishment with a pen."

5 out of 5 stars a great way to pass the time on a long car drive!   July 10, 1999
I had previously read this book and loved it, so I thought I'd get the audio version to take along on a recent road trip. This was a huge success! Everyone sat still, was quiet and enjoyed passing the time in the car by having a book "read" to them. I plan to take children's books on tape along on all future road trips. No whining "Are we there yet?", no hitting and tattling. It was wonderful!!!!! I can't say enough good things about this particular book or the idea of using books on tape in the car.
