Excellent little book, just the right amount of information to make it useful and informative without being too heavy reading.

Very pleased

5 out of 5 stars A CRACKING INTRODUCTION TO RUNNING A HOLIDAY LET   June 6, 2007

In stark comparison to another book on this subject that I've recently reviewed, this is a really excellent piece of work by Christopher Howard and David Falk of the East of England Tourist Board. It's unpretentious, well-written; seemingly well-researched; provides interesting case studies and personal experiences of accommodation owners; and leads you a final list of useful contacts, complete with names, addresses, phone numbers and websites.

The progression through the book is supremely logical. It starts by asking the pertinent question whether running a self-catering establishment is right for you in the first place and then guides you through the set-up and operating the business - with all its myriad facets and choices - right the way through to expansion.

I started off by higlighting bits of information that seemed particularly relevant, but gave up well before the halfway point, because it all seems such good stuff. The ultimate test of course will be whether all this good advice actually works in practise, but I'll be surprised if it doesn't
