This encyclopedia is an excellent reference work, especially its cross-referencing to other definitions in the same context. The explanations are clear and concise. For anyone interested in Eastern Religions and Philsophy it has proved an absorbing and thought-provoking volume which all students in this area should buy!! My particular interest is in Buddhism, but as the topic unfolds I was led into Zen and Taoism, thereby, expanding my knowledge and understanding of a wider range of issues, including Buddhist practices. The diagram and analysis of the sacred word OM was enlightening as well as translations of several of the famous mantras like "Om mane padme hum".
The Bibliography was divided into the different philosophies, which was particularly useful. There is also a Ch'an/Zen Lineage Chart for the needs of the student of Zen.
The volume is well illustrated with photographs and diagrams which all adds up to a compelling book that will hold the reader fascinated for many hours.
Definitely worth a 5 star recommendation.
