If you are a fan of books like Three men in a boat,Augustus carp, Diary of a nobody, this double novel book will warm the cockles of your heart! Wonderful characters, you do not need to know about mountaineering or rafting to love this. It has so much warmth, humour, love of fellow mankind. A totally uplifting experience. BUY IT IF YOU CAN!

5 out of 5 stars What about the writer?   April 18, 2001

When my sister send me the book, i though that i didn't like it, but then I saw that it's a very good history. I'm very interested in the writer's life and know if he's dead... but in the book itsn't any information. Bowman is a very nice person and I think that he needs people know him!!

5 out of 5 stars The truth about expeditions   November 6, 2000

This is the unexpurgated reality of what it is really like on an expedition. I've been on a couple and Bowman in Rum Doodle superbly and hilariously summarises all that can go tragically wrong. Ever been followed by a lurking suspicion or plagued by retainers who won't take the hint (Pong!)? As for Jungle and Prone - characters straight out of well... Rum Doodle. In all seriousness - for those with a sense of ridiculous, this is a sharp parody of the modern pompous explorer dealing with the harshness of the mountains.

Send down more champagne!
