5 out of 5 stars A compelling story of a woman's triumph over adversity   December 6, 2001
Here is a book which should be an enormous encouragement to anyone - male or female - who has been traumatized by the breakdown of a long-established marriage. Even in this liberal, enlightened age, the sudden end of a once-comfortable relationship remains a poignant and immensely distressing experience, akin for some to a living death, for it is the death of life as they have known it. Lindsay Brown recounts how, with the help of friends and family, she found the inspiration and the strength to face the world again and define for herself a new, hectic, exciting role within it. With gentle, self-deprecating humour, candour and occasional sadness, Lindsay describes how she fought her way back, turning the despair of rejection into happiness with another man. It is a story to gladden the hearts of all those whom love has deserted.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books of its genre.   January 29, 2001

Lindsays first foray into the world of publishing is a refreshingly candid, humourous & painfully honest view of the breakdown of a marriage. Most women who have ever had to face the traumatic & often harrowing demise of a relationship will identify with Lindsay as she struggles to regain her self respect, dignity & sensuality. Few of us would have the courage to write about our trials with such candour & good will. There is no blame attached, merely a slow realisation & acceptance of her own often denigrated personality. That Lindsay finds love again with not just one but two men both of whom offer love, support & understanding is central to her growth & re-emergence into a new world. Her juggling of two relationships is outrageously recounted & conveys the frantic & sometimes nervewracking efforts she has to go to in order to enjoy both men & keep them both separate from each other. The author's descriptive narrative draws the reader into an intimate portrayal of self discovery & sensuality. Her description of her first sexual encounter with "Mark" is hilarious & most of us can identify with her initial embarrassment & uncertainty. Altogether an enjoyable read. I laughed out loud in many places & had to read whole sections to friends. Go out & buy this book, & enjoy!
